Hindhead Fishermen is a growing group of Christian men who meet regularly in Hindhead to build fellowship, to support, challenge and question each other on their journey of faith in Jesus and to discuss anything but fishing from a Christian perspective.

You are in the right place if  you are looking……
• For a way to engage with Christianity outside of formal Church structures;
• For a way to express even deeper meaning in your life;
• For the sort of conversations you can not easily have at work;
• To create deeper connections with where you live,
• To make a difference around here …..

Go on  …….  get involved!

Our Purpose is to provide an opportunity for men to meet up in a relaxed and informal way, to develop local friendships, discuss current issues from a Christian perspective and to get involved in local community initiatives. It is a totally open group and anyone can get involved. You don’t have to be a member of any church, you don’t have to be a convinced, committed Christian – and you certainly don’t have to be a ‘Holy-Joe’.

We don’t have a membership as such, and the guys who get involved include:
• Men who do not ‘do Church’
• Men who are currently looking for something to give their lives even more meaning
• Men who are exploring Christianity
• Men who had left religion and have returned to Christianity
• A few Men who have been lifetime, committed Christians … and one retired vicar.

We meet twice a month in the village, usually on the second and fourth Thursday of the month.

The fourth Thursday is an evening in the local British Legion. We gather at 8pm for informal fellowship over a few beers. There is no agenda, just an opportunity to meet up with like minded, supportive, local men to chat about the matters of the day – international, national, local and personal – from a Christian perspective.

The second Thursday is a more structured event, again starting at 8pm and held in someone’s home or, as has been the case recently, in the main reception rooms at Manormead on the Tilford Rd. Here the focus is on learning and sharing. We look at contemporary issues that are relevant to men today and explore them from a Christian perspective. Recently we have been looking at things like ‘Man and his friends’ and ‘Man and his work’. There are many excellent sources for running focused meetings like this and we use anything that can support and challenge us in our thinking and behaviour – including, of course the Bible.

Because we are not a membership club, there is no membership criterion beyond wanting to engage with a broad range of local Christian men, ranging from the curious to the committed. Furthermore there is no compulsion to attend all our gatherings. Some really great guys have only turned up a couple of times down the pub and they know that we will be there again.

In addition to our own gatherings we get together to go to other events in the area that are organised for Christian men, usually involving hearty breakfasts. We are also keen to get involved in local community initiatives.

Getting involved with us is so simple. Your first step is to contact us through placing a comment in the blog below and we will get back to you.

We are Christians first and are not exclusively connected to any particular church or denomination although most of us worship at St Alban’s Hindhead: http://stalbanshindhead.org.uk/what-we-do/men/
